Liquid and electronics do not mix, but quick action gives your device a real fighting chance. Here is exactly what to do — and what to avoid.

1. Power it off immediately

The biggest danger is a short circuit while powered on. Turn it off and leave it off. Do not keep checking if it works — every power-on risks more damage.

2. Do NOT charge it

Plugging in a wet phone can fry the board. Keep it away from the charger until it has been properly dried and inspected.

3. Dry the outside and pull the SIM

Wipe it down, remove the SIM tray, and gently shake out water from the ports. Stand it on a towel.

4. Skip the rice — it is a myth

Rice does not pull moisture from inside a sealed phone, and dust/starch can get into the ports. It mostly just wastes the critical first day.

5. Get it looked at fast

The real enemy is corrosion, which starts within hours. A proper cleaning of the logic board with the right tools is what actually saves water-damaged phones — and the sooner, the better the odds.
